Tis Mercy All – Book recommendation

Tis Mercy All is a timely book. As we are bombarded by the often-vindictive negativity broadcast through the media and witness the verbal abuse promulgated on social media we need to be reminded of God’s standards for displaying mercy. In Tis Mercy All Natalie, through whom ‘Mercy’ runs like ‘Brighton’ through Brighton rock, achieves this with an appropriate mixture of humour, self-revelation and Biblical truth.

Natalie starts by giving a God-perspective of mercy, contrasting his attitude to mercy with our commonly held belief that justice should prevail – until we realise that while we may want justice as it applies to others we enjoy being the recipients of his mercy for ourselves. That determination to be merciful to us took Jesus to the cross. Understanding that should cause us to change. How?

Natalie has a beautiful way of communicating truth by illustrating from her own history and attitudes. She shows us how, in both our thinking and actions, we need to be changed by an understanding of mercy as seen from God’s perspective. We are called to be mercy-givers, fixing our eyes on him and being obedient to his will, demonstrating his love and mercy through our words and deeds.

I unhesitatingly commend this book to you. Full of both Biblical and personal illustrations with which we can identify it carries the reader through truths that represent a challenging read. Challenging? Yes. It challenges our heart attitude and asks us whether we are prepared to make changes that will result in being more merciful in our relationships and actions. I hope this will be widely read!
