Administrators Conference – reminder

Administration in the Church, Administrative Skills, Biblical Administration, Discover and Serve, Equipping, News
Administration is a key ministry in helping churches achieve their God-given commission. It is often a ministry that is under-valued and 'below the radar'. This one-day workshop seeks to raise the profile of administration by envisioning, equipping and networking. The day will include opportunities for prayer and prophetic input to individuals (see programme below). Although the workshop is primarily for those involved in Church Administration it will also be of benefit to church leaders in understanding how administration can help them to be more effective. It would be of great value for teams to attend together, particularly if they represent both Leadership and Administration. I do urge you to be there (sorry if you are reading this from outside the UK - though you would still be very welcome!). There…

A one-day workshop for Administrators

Administration in the Church, Administrative Skills, Conference Administration, Equipping, News
Are you a Church Administrator? An Office Manager? A PA to a church leader? I was delighted to accept an invitation to speak at this workshop which seeks to help you explore your gifting and turn vision into reality. Administration is a spiritual gift that is much needed in our churches today, and I am pleased to have an opportunity to pass on some of what I learnt during over 30 years working with Terry Virgo as his administrator and on the wider scene within the Newfrontiers family of churches. As you will see, the event is being hosted by New Life Church in Milton Keynes. To enable as many people as possible to attend they have kept the price low - just £15, which includes lunch. For more details…

Mobilising the church – Discover and Serve

Administration in the Church, Equipping, Serving
Introduction When I first left my employment in the National Health Service, where I was leading a research team in Rehabilitation Engineering that included designing artificial limbs for Thalidomide-damaged children, in order to work for Terry Virgo, my role was to serve him and what came to be known as Newfrontiers as his administrator. When he invited me he said "I don't know what an administrator does but I know I need one". My response was "I don't know either but ‘yes' "! So I then needed to look into the scriptures to find out what Biblical Administration is and how an administrator operates. Biblical Administration There are of course many scriptures demonstrating the administrative gift, particularly in the Old Testament - Nehemiah, Daniel, Joseph etc. In the New Testament…

Do we need a ‘social’ charity? Pt 7 – Partnering

Administration in the Church, Charity, Equipping, Poor
This is the last post in this series and also the final one of 2012. So let me take the opportunity to wish you a very happy Christmas. I love this time of year when we celebrate Jesus' birth and do hope there will be time for you to reflect on the amazing truth that he was prepared to come to earth and take the form of a servant, ultimately conquering death for you and me. I also hope you will have time to relax and be refreshed with family and friends. Partnership I am a great advocate of working with other interested bodies. Why duplicate services if this can be avoided? Partnerships may be with other churches or agencies, including secular ones, who have specialist skills and knowledge. How should this be structured?…

Do we need a ‘social’ charity? Pt 6 – Trustees and Oversight

Administration in the Church, Charity, Equipping, Poor
Trustees' abilities and skills Last time we saw how, in choosing trustees, there needs to be a combination of spiritual maturity, unblemished character, and spiritual and natural gifting. In the area of natural gifting it is good to identify what would help. Perhaps people representing the following disciplines: Finance, Law, Building (e.g. surveyor), Social Work, Teaching would be a good start. Another role trustees can fulfil is to ‘keep their ear to the ground' in the church. Sometimes elders are held in high regard by the people and thus be slightly removed from them, even if that is not their wish. The trustees are usually less conspicuous; few people will even know who the trustees are as they fulfil a supportive role ‘behind the scenes'. Thus they can sometimes be…
